Still, we can't think of a better way for this to be handled - Windows 8 wasn't designed for such interactions and some design choice had to be made. It can be a bit jarring: in Coherence mode you open the Start menu from the OS X menu bar, and then once you open a Metro app it disappears as you're pushed into a separate space. In Parallel's default "Coherence" view mode (which displays Windows applications in their own windows on your Mac desktop), Modern UI Style (read: Metro) apps will open in their own separate fullscreen windows and occupy their own spaces. I’m guessing it’s more difficult than it was to eek out all the latency when building natively. The major change in Parallels Desktop 8 is right in the name: the software handles Windows 8 completely differently than the previous version of the virtualization program. It’s certainly possible, as Slack is electron-based, and does it nicely. To search specifically within the note you currently have open, use Ctrl + F in Windows and Cmd + F for Mac. ![]() You don't need them to use Evernote, but since Evernote will sync across all your devices, it can't hurt. Once you've done that, you may want to download the desktop or mobile apps too. Evernote Personal, Professional, and Teams customers can also sign in and access additional support options. Go to Evernote's homepage, and click Sign up in the top-right corner of the page. Quickly access the search bar in Evernote by using Option + Cmd + F for Mac or Ctrl + Q for Windows. Find exactly what you need Evernote makes it easy to quickly locate whatever you’re looking for. However, they haven’t quite hit the nail on the head with the electron app when it comes to the same. Take a shortcut To start things off easy, try your hand at some powerful search keyboard shortcuts. Off the top of my head, something tells me all this was done prior to v10 which is why it’s so fast with the legacy apps. I would bet they also have some sophisticated redundancy across data centers that help with access latency as well. At least that’s what I would be doing at first thought. I would guess their search indexing data is as close as possible “to the edge” and the actual notes sit in a more traditional cloud service architecture. Some data can be stored in a quick CDN-like access point, whereas other data might be saved to something more long term, further back in memory that takes longer to load. I’m guessing they leverage the various uses of their cloud infrastructure. I am more interested in if anyone specifically knows how Evernote (or other organisations) do search at scale with 200m users and millions of notes per day while maintaining data separation between users and fast search latency. Interesting to think how it separates or limits the search results to a users own notes. This tech blog post on the Evernote migration from in house servers to the Google Cloud answers the question somewhat as it says Evernote is running a search service on user note data. Even a straight text search returns 166 notes from 40,000 in mere seconds.Īnyone know how Evernote can text search my 40k notes so quickly or am I helping too much by using sensible tags to limit the search? bundled with Mac OS X up to 10.6 LaunchBar provides instant access to local data, search engines and more by entering abbreviations of search item. ![]() ![]() I like to put the boot into Evernote as much as any long term users but it suddenly occurred to me that Evernote returned the desire note with a (2 tag and free text search term) result in seconds from my 40,000 odd Web clipped notes.
